Be A Lotus

To "be a lotus" means to rise above difficulties with purity and beauty, like the flower that grows from mud, staying grounded while transcending our circumstances

It involves embracing life's challenges as opportunities for growth, detaching from negativity, and maintaining our inner peace and integrity, much like a lotus which remains untouched by the water it grows in.

Book Review: Days at the Morisaki Bookshop by Satoshi Yagisawa

'Days at the Morisaki Bookshop' is a quiet, tender celebration of second chances, the healing power of books, and the gentle magic that exists in ordinary life.

Satoshi Yagisawa takes a simple premise - a young woman, Takako, whose life is shattered after a failed relationship, moves into her eccentric uncle’s tiny second-hand bookshop in Tokyo’s famed Jimbocho area - and turns it into a warm, soothing meditation on rediscovery.

The charm of this novel lies not in dramatic twists or grand epiphanies, but in its softness. Yagisawa writes with the light touch of someone who understands that personal transformation often happens slowly, through small kindnesses, everyday rituals, and ofcourse, in the company of books.

Takako begins the story numb and directionless, but through her uncle’s quirky presence, the rhythm of the bookshop, and her tentative steps back into social connection, she learns to breathe again.

The setting is one of the novel’s greatest pleasures. Jimbocho - a neighborhood full of used-book shops and literary cafes - feels like a character in itself. Author's love for books and bookstores seems to permeate the pages, reminding the reader why these spaces feel sacred to many of us: they hold stories, yet they also hold lives, memories, and possibilities.

This is a modest novel - short, uncomplicated, and I think, intentionally low on drama. Some of us may find it too gentle or look for deeper psychological excavation, but to approach it with that expectation is to miss its intent. Like a quiet afternoon spent browsing dusty shelves with sunlight pooling by the window, it asks us to slow down, breathe, and notice the small joys we often rush past.

A sweet and hopeful read that leaves you believing in new beginnings -sometimes found in the most unexpected corners, between old paper and the 'hum' of a quiet shop.
I would rate it 4 on 5

A Visionary Leader, A Compassionate Human Being

With the passing of Ratan Tata, we bid farewell to a leader who redefined what it means to lead with integrity, humility, and purpose. More than just a titan of industry, Ratan Tata was a man who believed in the power of people, in kindness, and in uplifting those around him. His life offers us invaluable lessons that will continue to inspire generations.

As a Person: Ratan Tata embodied empathy and humility. Despite his towering achievements, he remained remarkably down-to-earth, often connecting personally with those from all walks of life. He was known for his quiet compassion, such as when he visited the victims of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks without any fanfare or media attention. His belief in treating everyone with respect and dignity, regardless of their position, reflected his genuine care for humanity.

As a Leader: Ratan Tata redefined Indian business by emphasizing ethics, innovation, and global vision. He led Tata Group into becoming a global powerhouse, acquiring iconic brands like Jaguar Land Rover and Tetley. Yet, he did so without compromising the core values of integrity and ethical leadership. Under his stewardship, Tata Group became synonymous with trust, quality, and reliability. His vision was not just about growth but about making India proud on the world stage while ensuring the company remained committed to its core values of community service and responsibility.

A Few Lessons from His Life

1. Integrity Above All: Ratan Tata demonstrated that true success is not just about profitability but about how you achieve it. His adherence to ethical practices in business reminds us that honesty and transparency are the foundation of long-lasting success.

2. Humility in Greatness: Despite his vast achievements, he remained humble and approachable, teaching us that no matter how successful we become, we must stay grounded and connected to our roots.

3. Empathy and Compassion: He showed that leadership is about caring for people, and that every action, no matter how small, can impact lives in profound ways. His philanthropic work and focus on social welfare are a proof of his belief in giving back to society.

4. Vision Beyond Boundaries: Ratan Tata’s global vision reminds us that innovation and courage are key to pushing boundaries. He took risks that transformed the Tata Group while holding on to the values of integrity, proving that success and ethics are not mutually exclusive.

5. Resilience: His life teaches us the importance of resilience. He faced challenges and criticism but never wavered from his principles. His calmness in the face of adversity and his ability to turn challenges into opportunities, serve as a timeless lesson in perseverance.

Ratan Tata's life was a solid example of what is possible when one leads with heart, conviction, and a vision that extends beyond oneself. As we remember him, let us also carry forward the values he lived by—integrity, empathy, and a relentless commitment to the betterment of society. His name is Ratan, a true Ratna of Bharat.

He has left us, but his legacy continues to guide us in times to come.

To Sunita, My Companion, My Anchor

Born in '62, now sixty-two,
A journey of love, so pure and true.
Forty-one years, side by side,
In you, I found a friend and guide.

Through every storm, you stood so strong,
Made me better, helped me belong.
Your sacrifices, so quietly made,
In your warmth, our family stayed.

Now it’s my turn to rise and stand,
To support you with a loving hand.
Together, let’s chase what we are yet to find,
Explore the dreams that were left behind.

I can't imagine life without you near,
You're my strength, my joy, my dear.
Thank you, Sunita, for all you do,
My heart and my life, belong to you.

Pronunciation of Raama -

The very utterance of Raama is wonderful. By saying Raa (by opening the mouth) all sins get out of the mouth. May no sin enter again, with this intention the letter ma is uttered with lips closed like a door.
